Clearances
In order to comply with all state laws and ensure the safety of every child in our ministry, all persons serving with CEF must complete all applicable steps below.
You will need clearances if:
- you are18 years of age or older.
- you are14 years old and are being paid by CEF.
This process may take 3-4 weeks to complete and must be completed and submitted to our office prior to your interview.
Note: Due to formatting restrictions, these forms should be completed on a computer rather than a phone or tablet.
Step 1 – Pennsylvania Child Abuse History Clearance
Things to Know:
- Be sure to create an Individual Account and save your login information.
- You may choose to have your clearances sent to you by mail or email. Email will allow you to save and share your clearances most expediently.
- Clearances may take up to two weeks to receive.
- Help is available through the ChildLine Verification Unit at 717-783-6211 or toll free at 1-877-371-5422
Step 2 – State Police Criminal Record Check
Things to know:
- Volunteers: select the yellow “New Record Check” button on the patch website.
- Employees: select the gray “Submit a New Record Check” button on the patch website.
- Be sure to download and save your certificate to your computer once completed. You will only be given one chance to do so.
- Help is available through their toll free number at 1-888-783-7972.
Step 3 – Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) Criminal History Background Check
Fingerprinting is required for all paid employees.

If you have NOT lived in the state of PA for the last 10 years, you must be fingerprinted.
Things to know:
- If you are volunteering with CEF, this is your service code: 1KG6ZJ
- If you are being paid by CEF, this is your service code: 1KG756
- Choose “Digital Fingerprinting”
- Select “Schedule or Manage Appointment” and fill out all required information.
- Your clearance will be received by mail or email, depending on your selection.
- If you choose to receive it in email form, you can only click on the link to print once, so be sure to be on a computer where you can print or save the certificate.
- Save as a PDF or print out the form immediately after opening.

Step 4 – Mandated Reporter Training
Required for all adult volunteers and employees.
Things to Know:
- This 3 hour online course does not need to be completed in one sitting. It will save your progress.
- The course cannot be taken on a mobile device, such as phone or tablet.
- You will be able to log in after you complete the course and reprint the certificate if needed, but you want to save it as a PDF or print out the certificate as soon as it appears.
